Brewing ambition

About this series

Some people say the first brewery can be traced back 13,000 years to when a group of pioneering hunter-gatherers called the Natufian began making beer in a coastal cave in Israel. Others trace beer back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, with stone tablets thousands of years old recording the recipe, brewing process and communal enjoyment of beer.

It was and still is a drink with a few simple ingredients, that over time, has become a craft – a passion for those that brew it and those that drink it.
With so many possibilities of flavour, this beverage has captivated us for centuries, spawning an enduring yet adaptable industry.
In a series which spans the icy heart of the Arctic circle to the sun-drenched fields of the Mediterranean, discover the power of the pint and the people brewing ambition.

These are stories of the people infusing their craft with invention and imagination.
